Digging through 08 ft thick snow in Hope of life

On 08 Feb 2010 Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering & Winter Sports, (JIM & WS) Nunwan, Pahalgam received request from Officiating Dy Commandant, Lt. Col A S Shekhawat, High Altitude Warfare School, Gulmarg (HAWS). Lt Col Virinder Singh, Principal, JIM & WS sent Avalanche Rescue Team (ART) Gujjar Hut (Khilanmarg) survival camp training site for HAWS students where 301 trainees of Army were reported to be trapped under massive snow avalanche triggered from Lilly white (beata top of Apharwat). One ART of 36 persons including Lt. Col Virinder Singh, Principal JIM & WS himself, Medical Officer, Capt. Rahul Ashok Mahajan, Hav. Instructor, Tundup Dorjai, 03 Civil Instructors, Mr Mukhtyar Khan, Mr. Vicky Sharma, Mr Mahfooz Allahi, 27 other ranks of Air Force Personnel and 03 civilian students undergoing Basic and Intermediate Skiing courses at Gulmarg, Adhoc Sub –Centre of JIM & WS were detailed to move immediately to the avalanche site.
